i want to make my building secure using CCTV cameras?

i am going to make my campus secure using CCTV cameras both indoor and out door cameras. so that i can control it using a single monitor and what kind of software will i use to control it? and it is more preferable if video can be recorder to external devices so that the recording time it long . thanks

CCTV recorders are all digital these days and record to a hard drive(s) inside the unit. They have a minimum of four channels and go up from there to as many as you need.

They all have motion detect so if the picture doesn't change they don't record, as soon as 1 pixel changes such as someone entering the cameras field of view then they record in real time, each channel record independently. This feature means that only activity is recorded and you don't need a control centre to monitor the cameras 24/7.

They all come with software that can't be edited (so the video is accepted in court) They will date stamp every frame.

There are Laws as to where you can place cameras, toilets and bedrooms are out, externally you can only monitor your own property, unless you own the university you don't own the campus, so you would need written permission.

In the UK there have to be signs telling people they are being recorded. Not sure how this stands in the USA.
