What fabric may I use that won't fade, shrink, or lose color and strength over time?

I'm making a trench coat (gothic style) and I need a near if not waterproof fabric that would work and mend with my hands. I DO NOT want it to shrink, lose color, or lose its strength (washing over time and fabric to split like old pants) yet comfortable to wear.
