Hi I have ordered a new laptop and its coming in a few days and I require anti-virus software fro it. I have come across phrases such as

Norton and McAfee was probably not recommended as it slows your system down by quite an amount.

I would recommend a lineup of software like these to make your OS 99% secure ( no product is 100% secure ).

An anti-virus ( would recommend Kaspersky. Don't go for Bitdefender as it was reviewed to slow your OS more than Norton or McAfee. Oh and don't use 2 anti-viruses )

An anti-spyware ( I recommend you get Webroot Spysweeper since it wins the top for anti-spywares. Next up of a good choice is Spyware Doctor. Anti-spywares are fine to have more than 1 )

An anti-malware ( Hard to find. A good one is a-squared. They have a ton of definitions, and a good real-time protection. Just Yahoo a-squared anti-malware to get a better overview of the product before buying them. )

A firewall ( DON'T SPEND MONEY ON THIS. Just get Comodo Firewall Pro. Indeed, the three 'antis' I've mentioned above, the paid wins the free. BUT, for firewall, its different. Comodo Firewall Pro wins ALL PAID FIREWALLS in online firewall leak tests. Including the popular ZoneAlarm. So seriously, for all other security products you can find, paid ones are better. The only exception, is a firewall. Yahoo it out. )

A registry cleaner ( I don't think you'd find many paid registry cleaners, neither can I name many paid ones since they should probably be the last thing you should buy, especially if you think you don't have ample money. A good free one is probably CCleaner. I can't name a paid one. )
