its a sony DVR carl zeiss DCR-HC21
my laptop only has a USB port so i cant fire wire or anything else

according to what i found, it does have a usb inteface, so it just depends on software to capture or edit that may have come with it or finding some in the web. try it and tell messenger that there's a cam aboard and have it locate it, worst that can happen is you waste a bunch of time. but you can get decent web cams fro around $20 to $200. why waste your time? of course you could get one of those, copy the software, try it and if it works return the webcam...
