Vista Media Center and Satellite Reception?

I am in the market to setup a vista media center and I would like to know if using the satellite sat-top-box (DIRECT TV, all legal subscription) and feed it to my pc to download the program guide, would I be able to change channels with my media center remote and also do the recording (DVR)?

The only way to control a sat box from a PC is via an IR blaster

(see an example in http://www.irblaster.info/ )

Also, most PC capture cards can only record in SD, so you may not be able to record your HD programs. VMC is reaaly best to be used with off-the-air or Cable. I would simply recommend getting a PVR from Direct TV.
