PCI Soundcard problem, help please?

I had my pc check by our neighbor-friend technician. He fixed it one week ago and now the problem was back. The soundcard problem was we can't use the mic. For example, when we use it on yahoo messenger. The people we're talking to can't hear us. We are using an A4 Tech headset with mic. We can record music through sound recorder but it can't when we try to record our own voice. What could be the problem of our pc? Your help would be much appreciated.
